Oman has reiterated its commitment to resolving international conflicts through dialogue and peaceful negotiations, as articulated by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi at the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Al Busaidi emphasized the importance of dialogue in fostering trust and addressing global crises, while underscoring the need to respect national sovereignty and international law.
The foreign minister highlighted Oman’s concerns about regional conflicts affecting security and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He reaffirmed Oman’s dedication to ensuring freedom of navigation in line with international law and urged all parties to resolve disputes through dialogue and political negotiations. Furthermore, Oman expressed solidarity with neighboring Gulf countries in protecting their security and sovereignty.
Oman also renewed its support for a political solution to the crisis in Yemen, advocating for a settlement that maintains the country’s unity and stability. Al Busaidi called on all parties to collaborate on a resolution that upholds the rights and dignity of the Yemeni people while supporting reconstruction and development efforts.
Addressing the ongoing tensions in the region, Oman condemned Israeli actions impacting Palestinians and reiterated its support for Palestinian rights. The country advocates for the establishment of a Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, in accordance with the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions. Additionally, Oman is engaged in promoting tolerance and countering hate speech through initiatives like the Muscat Plan, in cooperation with the United Nations.
Beyond its diplomatic efforts, Oman is focused on sustainable development as part of Oman Vision 2040. This includes commitments to renewable energy, sustainable transport, and green industries, with a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, as emphasized by Al Busaidi during his address.
