Trade between Oman and Tanzania has seen a remarkable increase over the past three years, climbing from $140 million to $350 million, as both nations work to enhance their economic and investment collaborations. Oman’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Saud Hilal Al Shidhani, emphasized that the two countries are leveraging their historical connections by boosting business exchanges and investments across various key sectors. Omani businesses have expanded their presence in Tanzania, engaging in trade exhibitions and forming partnerships with local businesses to strengthen these economic ties.
Highlighting Tanzania’s advantageous position as a gateway to East Africa, Ambassador Al Shidhani pointed out the country’s access to regional markets through its participation in the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Recent agreements aimed at protecting investments and addressing double taxation have spurred interest in sectors such as oil and gas, mining, agriculture, fisheries, manufacturing, logistics, airport management, and transport. These developments are expected to further solidify the economic partnership between the two countries.
Tanzanian investors are increasingly drawn to Oman’s real estate market, further cementing the economic relationship. Looking ahead, both nations anticipate focusing their cooperative efforts on logistics, ports, renewable energy, tourism, food processing, mining, and the development of special economic zones. Such initiatives are poised to drive mutual growth and prosperity.
As part of their ongoing collaboration, Oman and Tanzania are gearing up for the third session of the Oman-Tanzania Joint Committee, which will be held in Dar es Salaam. This meeting will serve as a platform to review current projects and identify new areas for cooperation. Additionally, the introduction of three weekly direct flights by Air Tanzania between Dar es Salaam and Muscat is expected to boost tourism, trade, and business travel, further reinforcing the ties between the two countries.
